"Real art is one of the most powerful forces in the rise of mankind, and he who renders it accessible to as many people as possible is a benefactor of humanity."
- Zoltán Kodály, 1954
We believe that:
The freedom to make music should be available to all
The right to high quality tuition is the same whether you seek a rewarding hobby or a professional career
Musicality is just as important as technicality
Students and teachers benefit from peer support
A broad musical experience should not be frightening or intimidating
The study of music enriches the whole of life
We aim to offer a rounded, high-quality musical education for all, regardless of background, experience
or age. How far our
pupils dip into this pool is up to them; some have a single weekly vocal or instrumental lesson, and others add to
this with lessons in additional instruments, theory,
aural skills, keyboard harmony, improvisation, composition or accompaniment.
We encourage all our pupils to take part in group music-making activities and put on regular events to facilitate this,
encourage the formation of ensembles and, above all, provide a supportive peer-group and motivational springboard for
further enjoyment and achievement.
